Hope you have some moments of joy today and your weekend coming up! We were fortunate enough to get 3 out of 4 of our kids for dinner last night for my middle daughter’s Birthday. Happy Birthday Blair!
home grown flowers bloom one more year to celebrate the day one was born
It was fun to make this arrangement in anticipation of celebrating the gifts of my daughters beauty, talent and simplicity and dabble with floral creativity. She wanted fondue which was a tall order with the pandemic but we managed to borrow fondue pots from friends so everyone could have their own pot for dipping their veggies, fruit, chicken and bread into the delectable cheese.
On a side note: I’m entering a local Haiku contest for the fun of it. I am inspired by everyone in our community. My mother (my biggest fan) sent me the guidelines and said “you should do this”, so I thought “why not”. The funnest part was I made up 10 different ones and asked the family and a few friends to pick their 3 favorites and 3 of them actually made their own. That is the biggest inspiration to me of all. Once of my daughter’s sent me some beautiful poetry she just wrote as well. There is no better feeling than inspiring others to explore their gifts of creativity and light. I’m going to submit them later today. Win or loose, it’s fun to try. I’ll send them to you after the contest.
A special thanks to some of you for your support and encouragement in helping me understand the basic guidelines. I truly am appreciatve.
Have a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you on Monday!
Stay Blessed, Be Bright and Be You!

Winds blow Uncertainty Cleansing aching hearts The sun hides behind the fog Waiting patiently to burn off
In the distant horizon ships pass by Planes fly high Birds sing while vultures circle Waiting to be fed
Life is fragile Struggling to find words Dialing the phone Nobody’s home I just called to say goodbye
The whistle blows Tears flow back to the ocean The fog burns off And the sun glows
We return again and again Rainbows bring hope to despair Everlasting light Wind blows uncertainty
Let’s not say Goodbye! Until we meet again…. Farewell my friend
This comes at a time where we struggle with our sweet dog Harry. Some of you have been so kind to share Harry’s journey with us. He’s dependent on our every need, still eating happily and sleeping between us an night. He has no use of his front legs now either. I pray for miracles and work on him but the time is nearing. Some days his needs are greater than we can bear because he’s dependent on us for his every movement and it’s challenging. It’s a lot like having a newborn and trying to figure out what they need but you know they will grow up and leave the nest and fly. In this case we know we will have to say goodbye. Every time we decide it’s time to send him off to The Rainbow Bridge, he eats another meal and looks at us with those big brown eyes and we just can’t do it. We’re heading out for a hike now and pushing him in the stroller to get some fresh air.
Covid numbers are increasing here in California with a record high of 779 deaths on Friday.
We were watching the news last night and heard Larry King, the Brooklyn-bred man who became cable TV’s most well-known talk show host, died. He was 87.
Over the course of more than five decades in radio and TV broadcasting, half of it spent hosting CNN’s “Larry King Live,” King mingled with the famous and infamous and average people who became either. We watched his shows and had no idea of his colorful life at the time but loved his great interviews.
By his count, he interviewed more than 60,000 subjects, and when his run on cable ended in 2010, he segued to the internet with “Larry King Now,” a daily talk show on Hulu from Ora TV, and became an active presence on Twitter.
Larry’s last words were “Let’s not say Goodbye but rather, Until We Meet Again, Farwell”.
Life is short; days may seem long or fly by and it’s definitely uncertain. Pick up the phone and let someone you know you’re thinking of them, email or send a card. There is nothing like old snail mail. Love yourself and love others, life is fleeting.
Thanks so much for reading today, liking (if you do of course), commenting and or sharing.
Always love and light as you travel through your day!
So if any of you were worried about me after my last Friday post and thought I went off the deep end, I wanted to reassure you I was lost, but I’ve been found.
No, we didn’t drink all of the wine out of these bottles, maybe a little, but they did come in handy for my daughter’s DYI project. We’re collecting them now so please save yours if you are getting rid of them. I am so impressed with her as she works full time in a venture firm, is in Business School and still manages to find time for fun projects like these. Nice job!
Drinking Glasses or Candles:
Step 1: Gather your bottles and take the labels off with soap hot water.
Step 2: Score your bottles as show below.
Step 3: Dip back and forth in Hot and Cold Water until you hear a pop. Wear Goggles just in case.
Step 4: Sand the top of the glasses with sand paper until smooth with 120 grit.
Cheers to the DYI Queen of Crafting! Note the beer bottle in the bottom right hand corner for smaller thinner glasses.
These will be available on Etsy when her skill gets perfected in sets of 4 or 6. Aromatherapy candles will be coming soon and I’ll share those with you at a later time.
One another note, most of you have probably seen the below but no matter what side you were on, this was incredibly moving and touching. Don’t miss it!
If you missed the inauguration and Amanda Gorman’s spoken poetry, here is a copy of the words and video. She was amazing and so impirational. Enjoy!
When day comes we ask ourselves, where can we find light in this never-ending shade? The loss we carry, a sea we must wade We’ve braved the belly of the beast We’ve learned that quiet isn’t always peace And the norms and notions of what just is Isn’t always just-ice And yet the dawn is ours before we knew it Somehow we do it Somehow we’ve weathered and witnessed a nation that isn’t broken but simply unfinished We the successors of a country and a time Where a skinny Black girl descended from slaves and raised by a single mother can dream of becoming president only to find herself reciting for one And yes we are far from polished far from pristine but that doesn’t mean we are striving to form a union that is perfect We are striving to forge a union with purpose To compose a country committed to all cultures, colors, characters and conditions of man And so we lift our gazes not to what stands between us but what stands before us We close the divide because we know, to put our future first, we must first put our differences aside We lay down our arms so we can reach out our arms to one another We seek harm to none and harmony for all Let the globe, if nothing else, say this is true: That even as we grieved, we grew That even as we hurt, we hoped That even as we tired, we tried That we’ll forever be tied together, victorious Not because we will never again know defeat but because we will never again sow division Scripture tells us to envision that everyone shall sit under their own vine and fig tree And no one shall make them afraid If we’re to live up to our own time Then victory won’t lie in the blade But in all the bridges we’ve made That is the promise to glade The hill we climb If only we dare It’s because being American is more than a pride we inherit, it’s the past we step into and how we repair it We’ve seen a force that would shatter our nation rather than share it Would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy And this effort very nearly succeeded But while democracy can be periodically delayed it can never be permanently defeated In this truth in this faith we trust For while we have our eyes on the future history has its eyes on us This is the era of just redemption We feared at its inception We did not feel prepared to be the heirs of such a terrifying hour but within it we found the power to author a new chapter To offer hope and laughter to ourselves So while once we asked, how could we possibly prevail over catastrophe? Now we assert How could catastrophe possibly prevail over us? We will not march back to what was but move to what shall be A country that is bruised but whole, benevolent but bold, fierce and free We will not be turned around or interrupted by intimidation because we know our inaction and inertia will be the inheritance of the next generation Our blunders become their burdens But one thing is certain: If we merge mercy with might, and might with right, then love becomes our legacy and change our children’s birthright So let us leave behind a country better than the one we were left with Every breath from my bronze-pounded chest, we will raise this wounded world into a wondrous one We will rise from the gold-limbed hills of the west, we will rise from the windswept northeast where our forefathers first realized revolution We will rise from the lake-rimmed cities of the midwestern states, we will rise from the sunbaked south We will rebuild, reconcile and recover and every known nook of our nation and every corner called our country, our people diverse and beautiful will emerge, battered and beautiful When day comes we step out of the shade, aflame and unafraid The new dawn blooms as we free it For there is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it If only we’re brave enough to be it
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit me today! Hope you have a wonderful Friday and awesome weekend!!! See you Monday. Please remember to like (if you do, of course), comment and or share.
Thank you so much once again to Jason Gotlib for his spectacular photo and his beautiful hopeful quote.
In celebration, light, love, hope, unity, blessings, prayers for all of us; no matter what color our skin, religious beliefs, gender, sexual preference or age. Thanks so much reading and liking (if you do of course), commenting and or sharing!
I know I’m usually the one that is smiling, happy and upbeat with a positive outlook (didn’t I just write that 🤣). I generally write soothing poetry, post exercise and health tips with a touch of humor and there’s always Fun on Friday. If you haven’t seen it, (which I expect lots of you haven’t, PLEASE DO). My Heaven meets Hell on Fri-Yay Funday post was a little edgy and out of character for me with my collaboration but really fun for me to play with a different voice and banter with none other than Gottfried.
I can’t tell you how excited I was to share it with all of you and then when I posted it and broke the link and I ended up in WP hell, I was going crazy. How crazy is that!!!!! So now, I’m the crazy peep. We all know the feeling though of getting something up and ready to go only to find it glitched. I was like “who’s playing with me? Is this an omen from the devil himself, God, Gottfried?” 🤣🔥 And seriously, how important is this in the scheme of things in our life? IT ISN’T!! WE ALL KNOW THAT, BUT IT WAS FOR ME THAT DAY… Well, let’s be clear it was 3 days, cuz it took that long to rectify it.
If I were doing it alone I would have just taken it down and reposted it or something but I felt this tremendous pressure since it was a collaboration, and I didn’t want to let him down. I mean, I didn’t want to get fired before I even started. 🤣 It was a nightmare and I got so many emails and texts letting me know that they couldn’t get on my link. I felt like I had my first job working for peanuts but this is a hobby and hobbies are supposed to be fun but I sure wasn’t having any fun.
Thank you soooo much to all of you for coming to my rescue and heading to my post when I painstackingly asked each of you if you got the link. Honestly, it was a little embarrassing but I am sooooo grateful you came and visited and for all of your comments. There were lots of great ones but the one that made me laugh the the hardest was my husband’s when he said, “Are you Heaven or Hell?” I also wanted to see if you liked it since it was off beat for me and now there was no way to know since I couldn’t get an accurate response. You my W.P. friends, friends and family are simply the best!!!
So far, I’m going to Arizona to buy Lisa from Micro at the Macro a Star Bucks coffee, India to buy 10 of Kumar’s books, read Kevin Kinge’s new book (promise I’ll get to it), Finally read Diana’s book, from D Wallace. Thanks to Athira for telling me the new post had a broken link. Thank you so much to Johnathan Caswell, and Chuck thereluctant poem for reblogging it, Marsha from alwayswrite for linking it, Yvette for telling me it was broken, Scott from inspiredchief for always having my back and emailing me and letting me know, Kritika for the heads up and ALL of you who dropped in, commented and supported me. My kids have now banned me from W.P. and the computer for awhile. They’re right, but I’d say thats elder abuse so I’m locked in the bathroom with the lights out, so they can’t find me while i type 🤣.
When I tried to reach Gottfried in a panic for help saying “where are you”? His response was “Out in the real world”. What real world I thought… I was steaming, we all know as writers, this is our real world 🤣. What planet does he live on anyway! Oh right, we covered that. hahahahah. Oh my, I thought what has my world come to, I am possessed. And now I find out it’s his “damn” birthday so I can’t be too mad or maybe I can, since he doesn’t apparrently like them anyway, or does he” One will never know for sure. Happy Un Birthday Gottfried!!! Smile, you should be happy, I was working for you free while you were living it up, getting you all those new followers 😀!
I finally stopped and sat in meditation, came back to center and took some deep breaths. I did a few yoga poses and got out my angel deck card and asked what was this all about and here’s what I picked.
In retrospect, I think I have been trying to find my writing voice and putting myself out in the world in a new way was scary. In truth, life is our playground and I will never be a cutter cookie person, just ask anyone who knows me. Boring I’m not, unique, we all are, thus the name of my business, Uniquely Fit. Most of you all loved it and I know that for some of you, it wasn’t your favorite for religious reasons. I want you to know that I’m sorry if this offended you in any way. That certainly wasn’t my intention and I do think there were lots of pearls of wisdom in the post, so I hope you got some of that. For the 100 positive comments we get, we focus on the one or 2 negative ones which is human nature. We have to remember, we can never please everyone, as much as we try and it’s important to honor our own style and expression. That’s the story with perfectionists but we can only do our best. There is perfection in honoring our imperfections. We are all special just the way we are and life is meant to celebrated during our short stay, in light, love, truth and always laughter.
In closing I will leave you with our fellow blogger Curt Mekeman’s quote:
The ability to laugh at oneself has to be a major factor in avoiding insanity.
Love and Blessings,
Please remember to like (if you do of course), comment and or share and have a terrific day!
Welcome to Fri-Yay Funday Collab post When Heaven Meets Hell!
Once every so often your path crosses with someone that you might never be friends with. You are from complete opposite sides of the coin, or are you? You can’t explain it but there is sheer delight in the irreverent, and light heartness of deep issues that the other person would say “It’s not that deep”. They make you laugh even though you might not comepletely get their “warped sense of humor” (no judgement there 🤣), or making fun of issues of importance. And they don’t get your esoteric heavenly ways. Men are from Mars and Woman are from Venus. We all know this is true. In this case, He is from Hell and I of course, am from Heaven. 🤣 🔥😇
Can they ever meet in the middle and find equal playing ground?
Step out of your box whereever you stand and have some light hearted fun. We’ve been locked up so long we may have begun to take ourselves too seriously.
Who are you?
The age old question.
I am the wind beneath your wings
So, what’s a nice girl like me doing in a place like this hanging out with you? I was minding my own business doing my job helping people mend their wings so they can fly again and then you came along. I have an important job being an angel and don’t have time for demented souls like you. It’s a full-time job turning damaged goods into worthy ones. And then word gets out that you are so good at it, you put your shingle out and call it heaven. Floating in the clouds is fun for a while, wearing your white robe and Halo and drinking good wine. Not rot gut thunderbird for me, I’ll leave that for you in the lowland. I get the goblets out and say “drink, this is my blood and you will have eternal life and be free”.
Everyone wants freedom but next thing you know they’ve drunk the life right out of you and you’re floating in the Red Sea. So you pour a little more so you can drown their sorrows and yours from the purgatory of YOU. It’s a thankless job but someone’s gotta do it and it sure as hell isn’t gonna be you. You sit in your solitary confinement, laughing the pee out of people, farting, making jokes, raking someone over the coals while you sharpen your horns and stick, ready with a swift prick. Oh to be a prick. Prick you. I just wanna be you for a day. Even Fairy Godmother’s need a time out. Their wings get tired and they get sick of nursing these poor souls back to life.
I think it’s great that people try to be you for a day. Sometimes I pretend to be normal but it gets boring so I go back to being myself. I’ve put a lot of thought into it and I don’t think being an adult is going to work for me. So the only way I will gladly swap bodies is if it’s with a kid. There’s nothing about being a kind old lady that appeals to me. Everyone comes to me for food and advice, two things I hate sharing above all. Why would I be inclined to give you food just because I’m old and motherly looking? Although if you want bad advice, you can catch me at the pub, I’ll be there all night long dishing it. The worst part is, you were born on a leap year, so I have to wait four years to celebrate my damn birthday?
I could never live in a shoe so I jumped to light speed so I could never be old. A Genie in a bottle, my wish is your command but only once every 4 years. The rest of the time I’m eternal youth, celebrating all year, cuz I’ll always be younger than you. Young at heart, we agree there, but spending too much time in the pub eating grub, surely ages you more than anything else. Just ask your liver. Too many kids and animals so what else was I going to do, so I whine. If I go missing, look for me on a wine bottle. Don’t let my kids know though cuz they’ll drink every bottle and then I’ll never be found. But then maybe that’s not so bad. Dust me off every 4 years and I’ll meet you at the pub but I’m not holding court with a bunch of drunks. I’ll never make it to 29 so I can’t waste my time.
I’ll be honest when I say that this sounds like the best way to live. What is a life worth living if it’s not on the edge? We’re here for a good time not a long time so we have to make the most of every second of the day. If you think nobody cares that you’re alive, try missing a couple of car payments. If I ever get missing, please follow my kids. They can find me no matter where I try to hide. Of all the things I’ve lost, I miss my mind the most. As the days draw to a close, I am constantly reminded of the insignificance of my existence. The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that it has never tried to contact us. And that’s on period.
We finally agree. No one makes it out alive so we may as well have a good time. A long ride sounds like a road to nowhere. Does anyone even know what day it is anymore? Or should we care?! As for me, I’m living on the back 9 with all of the comfort stations. The grass is always greener, but be careful what you wish for and watch out for the dog poop. Oops… My mama said there were gonna be days like these. We have to milk each moment for what it’s worth and not cry over spilled milk. It’s all mind over matter. If you don’t mind it doesn’t matter. So no worries about losing yours. The cow jumped over the moon, the little dog barked, the pig squealed and the kids ran away with the wine.
Hell……………….? Are you there?
Heaven can wait; What do you say?
I’d say, that was a hella Fun Friday!!!
I do hope you enjoy this collaboration! This is off the beaten path of my usual arena and it was soooo much fun. If you would like to see more of these please let me know and thanks as always for reading, liking (if you do of course), commenting and or sharing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and remember if you don’t like it, the devil made me do it 🔥🤣!!!!
Ok, I just had to say that once, because when I hear y’all say it, I love it and I feel young and hip. I always think “oh YAY, I may not be that young but I’m a leap year baby, which means I only have a birthday every 4 years, which makes me 16 and young at heart. If you do the math, don’t tell me, I like to live in a delusionary world. hahahahaha😜🤣
This would usually fall under a Fun Fri-Yay but I have a special surprise collaboration this Friday with one of your favorite bloggers and mine so be there or be square!!!
You may remember the bike debacle at Christmas. I sure do… lol. We celebrated with my son’s girlfriend, Kristal the week before and she was soooo excited when he surprised her with the bike. They went on a ride and she fell off because she didn’t have the right shoes that locked in. Thankfully she was ok! Here they are celebrating below. Isn’t she adorable?!!!! She’s as nice as she is pretty.
The next week we celebrated secret Santa where we pick names and buy a gift for whoever’s name you picked. Half the fun is trying to decide who has you.
The joke was on me. Why was I the only one that couldn’t see? They pulled the wool over my eyes. So much for being healthy wealthy and wise. Healthy I am, wealthy in spirit, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad, Thank you sonny boy “Gary”!
So Kristal was in on it the whole time when she pretended to be surprised the week before Xmas when he gave it to her, and then gave it to me on Christmas Day. So sweet of him! Scott, from the inspiredchief was right when he said: “Great Post Cindy. Maybe it will be a gift from Santa. Did you make the nice list this year”. Are you Santa or an elf Scott? I’m giving you my list next year. Apparently, I did make the nice list! 😅
Woo hoo! Now I actually have to ride it. 😜 Truth is, I would never go on a bike these days if it wasn’t for a chance to be with him.
Check out these new fun fitness dice my daughter game me.
Roll the dice and let the fitness begin. Another fun way to get your workout in.
So, I’m the trainer, the rest of my fam are jocks… yes all 5 of them. 😜 I’m not going to risk getting injured by putting myself at risk doing all of the things they do cuz it’s my livelyhood, so I play safe. That’s my excuse anyway. The truth is, they are so darn good at everything and I pale at their athletic ability, so I hide behind the “It’s my livleyhood story even though it’s smart to do so. The truth is, I’m really competive and I don’t want to loose. 🤣 It would wound my ego deeply. Lol. .
But I’m a good sport and my son will hike to appease me, but doesn’t love it so I agreed to play or beat to the tune of my own drummer as I ran the course, and and fumbled around playing disk golf with them.
Hunter had the best time… now if only I could teach him play frisbee. Here’s a couple of holes of a 15 hole Frisbe golf course.
Stay Tuned for Heaven Meets Hell on Fri-Yay Funday. This is a personal invitation and I’m really excited to share it with you. He’s (that’s the only hint I’ll give) one of my favorite blogger and yours aside from us of course!!!
Have a great day and wonderful Thursday and can’t wait to see you then!
See you on Friday! Everyone who comes will have a direct line to Santa nee year…lol!
Thanks so much for visiting today; liking (if you do of course), commenting and or sharing.
It’s Move It Monday so let’s do this. I’ve got a few tips here for you and then I want to share the Interview that Yvette from Priorhouseinvited me to do in December. Thank you again Yvette. She has a wonderful site so please do visit her.
I know a lot of you started out gangbusters with a plan on January 4th. Take note, I didn’t say January 1st because I’ve been in the industry too long to know that ain’t gonna happen unless you have exercise in place already. If you are one of the few that started, kuddos to you! We all know the best time to start is NOW but if you are like most people I know, you really won’t start until February and workout equipment becomes a coat rack soon enough. Don’t let that happen to you!
Start Today January 11th with some easy steps. The junk outta be almost gone and if it isn’t freeze it if you trust yourself not to go digging in after it or THROW IT OUT!!!!
If you need your why (we all need one~ soul search). Your why has to be deeper and truly imortant to you, to keep you motivated.
Here are 5 reasons you need to get to it:
1. WEIGHT CONTROL: Helps to lose fat and build muscle
2. KEEPS YOU HEALTHY: boosts your immune function
3. ENERGY: boosts serotonin levels and oxygen flow
5. LONG-TERM HEALTH: Lowers cholesterol, heart function etc.
Here’s your beginning workout for the year.
Ready or Not: Here we go!
This is easy peasy so you’ll have NO EXCUSES not to Move It!
Get your workout shoes on, dust them off an walk to the mailbox and back. Go a little further 3- 4 days a week and gradually work towards daily walks. Work your way up to 30 minutes in the next couple of weeks. Too cold to walk outside? Jog or walk in place, go up and down the stairs, turn on a video, go to one of my Youtubes or anyone elses for that matter and start with 10 min and build up from there.
Ready to take it to the next level?
Follow the workout Bombay Ficus put out last week that is great and requires No Equipment. It’s AWESOME and I’m going to use it next week when I start back to teaching. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Today I want to share the Priorhouse Interview with blogger Cindy Georgakas.
How did this interview come about? I met Cindy when she was featured on Kally’sMiddle Me and was inspired by her positive energy. The other thing that stood out was how she has been in the health and fitness area since the 1980s. This level of expertise and understanding of the human body is impressive. She also brings joy to the blogosphere.
My favorite post from Cindy’s blog (so far) is “I’ve got your back” with some excellent tips for spine/posture health, sitting tips, and helpful stretches.
Cindy, Thanks so much for saying yes to an interview. Can you tell us some of your history and what you do?
Thank you so much for inviting me, Yvette. It is my pleasure to be here.
I am a Fitness and Life Coach, Personal Trainer, Group Ex Teacher teaching Yoga and bootcamp, Craniosacral and Massage Therapist, Reiki Master, and a Music-as-Medicine Facilitator. I also have a team of therapists and teachers that generally work with me, but due to Covid, we are on hold with that piece of our practice.
Whew…. You might be asking, “How does one person do all of those things?”
The short answer is that when you have been doing this work for as long as I have, diverse pathways continue to emerge and you trust and then go where you are called. I’ve been in the field for 35+ years (that makes me sound a little younger, lol), and I have been regularly practicing right here in Woodside, California (40 miles south of San Francisco) where I was born.
My blog, Uniquely Fit, was born out of my passion for fitness with the premise that every person is unique, different, and each individual’s needs must be honored. Life is meant to be shared and I hope that my blog posts provide some pearls of wisdom and Aha! moments that give meaning to your day; perhaps a chuckle, something to ponder, growth, light, insight, and joy.
Cindy, An interesting thing I took away from your interview on Middle Me was how you started your coaching and health/fitness practice around the same time as Jane Fonda. This stood out to me because the first aerobics class I ever did was with a Jane Fonda cassette tape in 1987 – which started with something like – “You want to have your running shoes on because you won’t want to stop and put them on during the session.” – and lines like, “Get those knees up there.” – haha – So reading that parallel life connection with Jane Fonda was cool. How does your career parallel to her stuff and anything else you want to expound on with this – ?
Interesting question, Yvette – and first, that is such a fun Jane Fonda memory!
I wasn’t an activist or actor like Jane Fonda, but I did perform in a dance comedy group in San Francisco in my 20’s for a few years before opening my studio. As a Recreational Therapist who struggled with my weight, I saw this as a tremendous opportunity to open when Jane Fonda opened hers. I shared her love of fitness and dance and staying in shape, which is what we had in common. Her studio was in S.F. and I opened mine about 20 minutes south of the city in San Mateo, Ca. Fitness studios were popping up all over our area at the time. Classes were one hour consisting of a warm up, waist work, arms, aerobics, gloor, abdominals, legs, hips, thighs and buttocks ending with a stretch cool down. We used those same lines, “knees up”, ”reach”, “higher”, “squeeze.” We also had a lot of “whoo hoos” and cheering to keep everyone motivated while using mostly body weight and dance moves. Those were fun days and I employed the BEST instructors.
Cindy, do you have any tips for the readers on balancing work and family life?
Take good care of yourself first and foremost, which is easier said than done.
Remember you are not Superwoman or Superman. You are human and you need time for yourself as well.
Make a schedule and stick to it and plan in time for the unexpected, much the same way as having a money fund for an unexpected event.
Create a support network as it takes a village to stay strong and fortified. My mom and step dad were AMAZING parts of my support system! Before I decided to get pregnant again, I would ask my mom, “Are you ready for another grandbaby?” Without her, I would NEVER have had more children. Now my mothers asks, “When is someone going to get married and have kids so I can be a Great Grandma?” Also, I was fortunate to have a career that allowed me to adapt my hours to my kids’ schedule and I had an incredibly supportive husband; he was as hands on as I was while raising our kids.
Those are great tips and what spoke to me was the reminder that we are not Superwoman or Superman. In today’s culture, we tend to put so many demands on our schedule – busy-busy, go-do – and many forget to rest and decompress. Cindy, can you share wisdom from a life lesson?
I had owned a fitness studio for two years and we started out gang busters in 1981 when we opened. We built it out with beautiful wood floating floors, with electrifying graphics in red and purple, and we had the very best team of teachers – who I trained along with a consultant I hired.
Our location was marginal and I say that to emphasize, Location is EVERYTHING. If you haven’t heard the famous saying, it is “Location, Location, Location” and in the brick and mortar business world it is everything. I wanted to be in Burlingame, just 10 minutes away, which was perfect but I couldn’t get building permits etc.
I was young and naive and had a great following, but we started out with six classes a day, which was way too much with overhead costs. I ended up giving a lot of free classes and one thing I learned is that people need to value what you give them.
Cindy, I know what you mean about “not valuing” free things. Sometimes free means “disregard.” For example, we once heard about a community center that had people tossing free, entire hamburgers and full drinks into the trash. Rather than giving those items away for free, they started to charge a quarter for hamburgers and drinks, and there was less waste.
Yes. When something is free, people usually do not value it. Also, at that time, I had my first baby and my commitment and time constraints started shifting. As instructors didn’t show up, I had to get certified in more and more classes to assure the show would go on, which was stressful. We were in the red and struggling. The writing was on the wall but this was my first baby, so it was tough to let it go. Finally, we decided to sell the business, which was heartbreaking – but the business was unsustainable. It turned out that the new owners ran an illegitimate massage parlor, which we had no idea about until they were paddy-wagoned out a year later.
At the time, the whole thing was devastating but it turned out to be the best thing ever and the increase of income was insurmountable. Traveling to people’s homes and them coming to me, was much more lucrative without the overhead of a storefront business.
As the 2020 year is winding down and some folks might be thinking about health goals for the coming year -do you have health and wellness tips to offer?
I would say:
Don’t wait for 2021 to start, DO IT NOW.
Take small steps to build habits and instill more long lasting health benefits.
Do some kind of activity daily for a min 30 min. Aim for an hour but if you can’t do that, do 10 minute increments. Cardiovascular activity is important for your heart health. Think walk, run, bike, dance etc.
Do some kind of strength training either with your own body weight or small or medium to large weights 2-3 days a week, and do stretching everyday if possible.
Meditate or do some breathework daily. I love Yoga and Tai Chi because they are moving meditation. I also like to do a daily sitting practice of about 15 minutes to train myself to do nothing, which is no easy feat.
Music and chanting are also wonderful gifts for the soul.
And where on your blog should they go for more information if they wanted to connect with you?
I blog monthly about fitness on my blog site and add videos.
Thank you so much for your time here at Priorhouse blog.
Thank you, again, Yvette, for inviting me to be featured on your invaluable site.
As a Health and Wellness Professional, I am inspired daily by my clients and friends who continue to inspire me to be my best self! One of my favorite parts of blogging is sharing thoughts openly and candidly in support.
To all readers, Remember that “Life is Not a Dress Rehearsal” so do not put off what you want most for what you want now.
My top takeaway was Cindy’s call to action.
Her reminder to NOT put off what you want most and the advice to not wait for 2021 to start is something to consider. Start some new habits “maybe this week” and don’t wait until “after the holidays.”
Start something today.
End 2020 with some Zest.
Sometimes our health and wellness needs have to be addressed right now – no matter what the season. Maybe pick one thing from the list of suggestions and get moving – like do some breathe work – try meditating – or start following Cindy’s blog for some ideas – and especially be sure to check out her “Fri-Yay… Funday!!!”
And this short YouTube wvideo will give you some ideas for giving your body a lift right now – 15 minutes of an investment in you:
Okay- Any notes for Cindy regarding what she shared?
Any photos from the post stand out to you?
Any plans for your health and wellness goals for 2020 – maybe something to start this week??
Or any tips you have for ways we can end 2020 with some zest?
Thanks so much for visiting today and please remember to like (if you do of course), comment and or share. So much appreciation!
If I am to be completely honest, I’m not feeling too fun at the moment. I have always been accused by my clients and most friends of being “too happy”. A dear client who transitioned at 86 used to say “OH NO, here comes Ms. Happy” when I showed up twice a week to put her through the exercise paces. The last thing she wanted to do with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) was see me and yet it was the high point in her day.
I think of her today and the many I have lost over the years ( B.C. before covid) that were so near and dear to my heart. Some of them who had weathered the storms of the ages and some not able to see their kids graduate and I know they would be turning over in their graves right now with the current state of affairs in our country,
I stay happy because I usually stay away from the news and don’t allow toxic informaion that I have no control over to invade my psyche. I energetically stay positive and send energy by tapping into divine truth that raises my level of counsousioness and recharges me so I can be a conduit for others to do the same. It does no good to go down the tubes when I know that healing is going on at it’s deepest level and cleansing out the toxity in a situation is vital, no matter how ugly it gets. We have a choice, we can align with the divine and be a vessle for light and love to enter through darkness or we can let it envelop us.
I was glued to the news inbetween clients and shaken like most people I know, as we watched the unfathomable of breaking into our capital and vandalizing sacred ground incited by our leaders. I’m not here to talk politics. This is a deep time of mourning no matter what you are for or against and violence and threatening our democracy no matter what, is deplorable and never ok. So, I guess you would say, I’m in shock and mourning.
I decided on January 1rst that I would write a quote everyday this year and at the end of the year, if I don’t have the book I’m workng on ready, I will have a book of meditative quotes from the year. I wrote this for next year.
Jan. 6th 2021
Let the music of silence fill your heart with stillness The lyrics might be out of tune and your ears might need to filter out The noises all around you Surrender and let go as you dance through your day in light and love.
It’s hard to ignore voices of the outside world especially in despicable acts of violence trying to drown out truth.
How do me maintain composure and honor and do what’s right, when every ounce of you wants to retaliate?
It’s not easy to be witness to the atrocities of the world, destruction, violence, greed, anger, racism, rape; whatever the case may be. Last year today it was an assault to our democracy in America. Wherever you live, who ever you are, you know the feeling of being a victim of unjust behavior. We have every right to feel sad, scared and angry and yet we must remember that truth prevails and light overshadows darkness.
Our own inner world and mind can be as damaging to ourselves as what happens in the outside world.
Close your eyes and breath and ignite the light so we together can collectively find peace amidst chaos and confusion. Breath in and breath out as you settle the restlessness in your bones, so you can be part of the solution not the problem.
Sing a song of joy and goodness as you ignite the light.
On a happy note, I ended up staying home while my husband and son headed to the lake last night so I could take care of my soul on a deep level and enjoy the stillness of the morning. I’ll head up later but in the meantime, the morning is heaven as it always is when the sun comes to greet the day and I’m cuddled in, nestled between the sheets with my beloved cats.
I’ll be wandering to the lake soon after meditaion and my morning ritual of writing and the fun will begin. However you find yourself, honor your feelings and heart and treat yourself well. Enjoy your weekend and find respite no matter what’s going on in your world. I’ll see you on Monday with some exercise tips and an interview that Yvette from Priorhouse did on me, in case you haven’t seen it yet.
And have fun. After all, it’s Friday Funday and someone has to do it, so it might as well be you.
Stay Blessed, be bold and know you are love.
