Unique Times

Where I share my jewels of wisdom of life

What’s up Doc? Wait it’s raining in California and the lights are out? Yeah Baby! It’s time to celebrate and make stories cuz we’re not dreaming! It’s finally raining Cats and Dogs, bunnies, bears and pigs!

Mr. Sandman comes alive.
Shadows of my hands reflecting
stick figures on the ceiling.
Peter Rabbit runs from Mr. McGregor,
caught red handed eating carrots and lettuce;
Oh, what a feeling
!

Little Red Riding hood on her way to Grandma’s house,
bumps into the big bad wolf while picking berries.
He lunges at her with his big sharp teeth.
She grins and pulls out a little mouse.
He runs as fast as he can, never to be seen again.

The 3 little bears and the 3 little pigs decide to be friends,
building houses out of steel and beds of soft down;
Cooking meals and having parties for the entire town.
They invite Peter rabbit and little Red Riding Hood and granny
But still pay a visit to Mr. McGregor and pay him or his yield

The moral of the story is have fun when it rains,
Pay your debt to the farmers or grow your own food.
Always have a mouse on hand if you run into the Big Bad Wolf.
Bears make honey, pigs do get slaughtered so don’t be greedy.
And be kind to your elders and granny; like little Red Riding Hood.

Happy Fri-Yay Funday my friends!

So what do you do when the power goes out for 36 hours? I’ve been slow getting back to all of you because I had to charge my phone in my car and then my gas ran out, since I had to keep it charged. Naaah, it didn’t really but the story sounds better that way and it could have. Hahaha! I honestly love it when this happens because it stops everything and you’re forced to do nothing.

A lot of people I know have generators so they don’t miss a beat but there are only a very few times when life stands still and you’re forced to be device free and chill. I draw the line though after 2 days since after that, all of your food can spoil and that’s just NOT fun. Playing crazy 8’s with my husband and son was fun, reading and listening to my son’s conspiracy theories of lights out and the town being taken over… It’s almost funny but these days it’s just down right maddening and scary! But the best of all was going to bed with a candle and casting these puppets on the ceiling, writing long had and this little diddly.

And now one of my favorite songs………. and the visuals are so good! 👏👏👏👏👏👏 Turn up the music and dance and sing! Timothy please play the guitar and Clive you must have a story. ❣️❣️❣️

Have a great Friday and weekend whatever you do and remember life is met to be enjoyed so mix things up a bit and have fun.

Can you tell what I wrote below?

I DO… I REALLY DO❣️❣️❣️ LOVE YOURSELF AND ALL THOSE YOU LOVE❣️

Thanks truly for stopping in and playing with me. Also, if you are on FB and would be so kind to go in and like The Unique Times Page I would be truly grateful. This is all new to me but like you I am learning as I go. When I figure out how, why and if it helps, I’ll share it with you so you might benefit too.

Thanks Tons!

🙏🙏🙏

Stay Happy and Blessed

Someone’s extra perked up because of the rain 😉
Oh, what a beauuuutiful poem! 😻 Little Red Riding hood, Peter Rabbit- so creatively woven. Too much cuteness!
I see a lot of bloggers celebrating the rain in California now. Must have been a horrible drought! 🙁

Oh, my heartfelt prayers 🙏 There have been times when we’ve had to resort to artificial precipitation here to bring rain. Where is this world even heading? 🤷‍♀️🙁

Lovely post, Cindy. And I love the song! It takes me back to the wild and crazy eighties! 😍😍😍 I’m so sorry you’re having so many blackouts but it’s great that you found ways to enjoy yourselves during the outage. Bless you, sweetie! 😊🤗💖🙏

I pray that you’ll get plenty more rain. And I just thought of one of the first songs I remembered from when I was three. “It Never Rains in California.” I remember my Dad playing his guitar every evening after dinner and me singing along with him every evening after dinner. “It never Rains…” was one of the songs we sang. It was how we spent our family time. 👪 💖💐🌹

Happy Friyay Cindy. You mentioned two of my favorites in this post. Love crazy 8’s and I have a deep love for Irene Cara’s “What a feeling”. It sounds as if you really made the best out of the blackout situation. Good for you! Much love , my friend.💕❤️💕

Sorry, I was never a fan of disco. My then wife dragged me along to watch the movie but it was no Saturday Night Fever, was it? I recall this being a big hit here, one of those songs that seemed to follow you around. My best memory is the office Christmas party that year: one of the young guys was really keen on the boss’s PA and tried to impress her with his dancing skills. Sadly, he had filled up on too much Dutch courage and after spinning around a lot he passed out. He never did get the girl, either.

Wonderful poem with all the fairy tale characters straightened out. We’ve been without power for long periods. It makes you feel like a Neanderthal. I’m a sucker for dance movies. I always liked the flush scene in Flash Dance. I miss the dancing daze. Your shadow puppeting photos are really fun. They have a real artistic sense about them with your excellent Off Center & Not Even compositions.

Cindy, we went from Crazy 8’s to a very evocative video of Irene Cara’s wonderful song. There is some TV commercial on right now, where an elderly man replicates that Flashdance picture with laundry falling on him. It is not quite the same as Jennifer Beals (and her dancer stand in) in the movie. FYI – the final dance number of the movie is done by three people, two women and one man. But, I digress.

Setting that aside, Peter escaped Mr. MacGregor, but he was in the wrong in stealing his vegetables. So, I am glad the bears and pigs and rabbits well pay a fee to the MacGregors for their products. My kids loved the Beatrix Potter books and we had this DVD (actually it was a VHS) video of three of her stories. Maybe we can get the bears, pigs and rabbits to sing “What a feeling.”

Glad your power is back on. Keith

36 hours? For real? Well girl, it sounds like you were pretty imaginative at games you can play in the dark while keeping it fun! I mean really, what else could you do? Well, maybe you shouldn’t answer that question. We want to keep it Rated PG! 😱😂😜

Love your approach in handling such a dark situation! LMBO! 😆🤣😂 And oh the stories you created. You sure know how to turn a blackout into a FUNyay Friday! 😁😁😁 I hope you won’t have to experience such a night like you did for a while, unless you decide to turn the lights out yourself!!! 🕯💡🪔 Have a FANtabulous weekend Cindy! 🎇✨🎉

Cindy!!! It’s SO GOOD TO SEE YOU MY FRIEND! Of course I do finger puppet shows in the dark with a flashlight. 36 hours is a long time! I just love your enthusiasm and talents. About the poem….wow, wow, wow. I’m so glad it’s published here–now what about a book? I saw the word you spelled—and I LOVE YOU TOO! We all do! Take care dear friend. Happy Halloween!

Sip sip hooray! Tea is on! And coffee too! Your stories, and any poem, are book worthy! Just title it like your blog, “Uniquely Fit!” Filled with humor, inspiration, personal anecdotes, …I’ve been doing well. Since launching my first kid’s book, it has been a deep learning curve. Marketing, software, planning visits and juggling keeping to write and maintain this site for friends like YOU! I’m addition, as you know, family obligations and house stuff. I volunteer once a week with disabled adults. I do relish my quiet time and in nature. So I hang on to healthy! Back to the uniquely fit~what is awesome about your title is the “fit” can refer to not just fitness, but fitting in with society. To the world we may not “fit”, yet we uniquely offer our gifts and talents and really have no idea who we might be encouraging! Don’t ever “fit” in, Cindy. As you know, it’s not worth it! Be uniquely YOU as you DO. Much love and hugs!! 💛❤️🤗🧡🍁🍁🍁🎃🎃🎃

The power goes out at my house two or three times a year. I really hate it in part because the houses behind me are on a different circuit and their power never goes out. I’m sitting in the dark while the neighbors are having a good old time. That is a great song and video. Have a great weekend Cindy! John

Hi Cindy
The shadow play is just fun – classic and timeless too!
I imagine folks doing that with candles centuries ago!
And laughing so much at your wit- (always so good)

The moral of the story is have fun when it rains,
Pay your debt to the farmers or grow your own food.
Always have a mouse on hand if you run into the Big Bad Wolf.
Bears make honey, pigs do get slaughtered so don’t be greedy.
And be kind to your elders and granny; like little Red Riding Hood.”

Did you mow the new Ford F-150 that are all electric can also serve as a generator for a house?
Crazy cool
And we have a small generator (never knew we had it all those years ) and I guess it can power up half the house if needed – but I agree with you – power outs are a chance to slow down and we make do!
Scary about the conspiracy theory cause crazy crap does sometimes happen

I have always found poetry hard to understand, too high brow to get unless one were a literary scholar (except the famous one that starts ‘There once was a man from Nantucket…’, I understand that one pretty well:).

But here, I don’t quite get the nursery story connections with some of the characters; why is the big bad wolf afraid of a mouse, I thought bees made honey, bears stole it… I know it is just my ignorance of the subject, but still. As to the moral of the story, I think that is spot on.

One thing I do know well, and I learned it quickly, after only reading here for a short time, it’s your vibrant light that illumines the darkness.

Thank you for all you do.

mike
mike

Ah yes, thank you for that explanation, it makes much better sense.

I think it takes a practiced artistic understanding of language to see the meaning of some poetry. I tend to read it too literally.

Much like visual arts: Kandinsky has beautiful use of color and shape, but what does it mean? Is there even supposed to be a meaning?
Picasso too, I know there is a face somehere in there because I can discern an eyeball, but what am I supposed to understand?

With time and practice it will get easier, I am glad to have found your site to help me in my learning.

What a sweet poem Cindy. How lovely especially with all the little twists. It can be fun to be with out electricity for a short while but like you mentioned when you start having to throw out expensive produce and other food it isin’t fun. Once we went without electricity for two days and a neighbor’s insurance paid for all her groceries. I would have never even thought to have asked. Looked like you all had a nice evening. Sending lots of love and hugs sweetie. xoxoxoxo Joni
