Most of you have probably heard by now that the winners of the Woman: Splendor and Sorrow: Love Poems and Poetic Prose Poetry Contest were announced last Friday. I was over the moon to be an honorable mention. Congratulations to the winners, Virginia Mateias, Ingrid Wilson, Eric Daniel Clarke, D. Wallace Peach, and Timothy Price. They were incredible pieces of poetry and I’m sure you’ll agree If you have read them already. If you haven’t gotten the chance to read them yet, enjoy them here: The Winners Of the Poetry Contest Woman: Splendid and Sorrow: | Love Poems and Poetic Prose
I am humbled to have been named as an honorable mention in the contest, alongside Joni Caggiano, Jeff Flesch, Karima Hoisan, and Carrie Yang and I know you will agree if you follow their sites and read their poetry and work. They all inspire me daily in my writing. A BIG thank you to Gabriela Marie Milton for creating and hosting this incredible contest.
My poem was inspired by Gabriela’s poem called Self Indulgence and to be quite honest the blind date I set my daughter up on which many of you were privy to in one of my posts. As you know by now, it didn’t get off the ground but hey, it spurred my writing along with Gabriela’s untouchable talent, which was a blessing in disguise.
Here is the beginning of my poem Chance Meeting….
We sat at the coffee shop and chatted,
eyes riveted drinking in the rose hips of winter in February,
where children run in the snow.
We escape from hardships and cold.
Electricity between us like thunder of the night.
sent shivers up my spine.
I would be delighted if you would visit Gabriela’s site, Short Prose, and read the rest of my poem, and the poems of the other honorable mentions. Thank you!
