Unique Times

Where I share my jewels of wisdom of life

LOVE CAPTURED IN MY TREASURED ROCK FROM THE DESERT AND MEMORIES OF THE WEDDING

Good Morning My Friends,

Soooo lovely to sit alone with Ollie ( my sweet albino cat) curled up on my lap a cuppa in hand and have a long overdue visit with you. Friday started out as my fun day blog because the kids were visiting which quickly changed into my day off where I can live with free abandonment if only in my mind.

But today, I’m starting with coffee instead of my lemon water with Bragg’s apple vinegar, juice of all of the colors of the rainbow (beet, kale, carrot.. basically everything from the kitchen sink, and I’m late with posting because I’m writing as I go. ahhhhhhh savoring moments are good. So take a breath in and out before you start to read and pull up a chair and a cuppa or read me later when time permits.

My mini vacation was just the way I live I realized… a whirlwind trip, active and fun and we covered more ground after not traveling much than I can remember. It started out as a quick trip to Santa Barbara to celebrate one of my daughter’s best friends wedding and ours and we turned it into an extended time and visited lots of friends which we never do. The bonus was each one had these amazing new bathrooms and since we’re supposed to start our bathroom remodel in January it couldn’t have been more perfect timing. The stars lined up as the universe always does when we’re ready.

First stop Templeton, California in San Louis Obispo, California

Templeton, Calif.: A different way to roll in a rustic haven - Los Angeles Times

I was a passenger so I could read all of you and “catch up” (I’m realizing I will never be caught up.. a slow learner here but ambitious) and I thought of one of my BBF’s that lives in Templeton, gave her a jingle and we had an amazing catch up which was awesome. Templeton is in San Louis Obispo and our youngest daughter went to school there so it brings back fond memories and the hiking is incredible.

Next stop, Santa Barbara to meet up with our youngest daughter, Barbican (her blog name 🤣) who was traveling from NYC before the wedding for dinner. Always a joy to unite and share time by ourselves.

Hiking in Montecito, California

Named one of the 50 Top Travel Places to travel in the world by Travel and Leisure in 2019 you can see why when you visit.
Montecito is home to some of the area’s most stunning stretches of coastline, from Fernald’s Point, past the calm waters of Miramar Beach and renowned surf break at Hammonds Point, to sparkling Butterfly Beach. Stand-up paddlers and surfers vie for waves, and sailboats sleepily bob against their moorings offshore.

It’s defiantly worth the visit and who knows you might see someone famous sitting at a local coffee shop on Coast Village Road or Upper Village but the real stars are one of the 15 hiking trails of the plethora of the flora fauna of the great outdoors. On a clear day you can see epic views from the city of Santa Barbara to the Channel Islands and beyond.

So lace up your shoes and come along with me.

San Ysidro Falls Trail

The San Ysidro Trail is beautiful taking you through a neighborhood of beautiful homes and then slowly winds up to the Hot Springs for the adventurous so you can guess where we headed. It was breathtaking and although we had barely any waterfalls 😢 I remembered the last time I was there when it was gushing with water. Shortly after that they had the fires and lost so many homes and then the tragedy of the mudslide floods in 2018 destroyed many of these properties. If you’re interested you can read about it here.

Pictures of the neighborhood as we started our hike.

Good to know it’s going well, and yes they did look great. It’s wonderful that she has won the competition – it rather depends on the musician: I like a lot of country but some of it does nothing for me. Like a lot of musical genres, really. I’ll be interested to see how it goes 😊

Girl, you have got to be tired, but at least you had one heck of a FUNyay time on your much needed trip. The photos are awesome and your haiku was a nice complement to your narration! Enjoy your beautiful weekend my dear! I think you should rest before embarking on that bathroom project though! 🛁🚿🚽🤣

Cali has a lot of beautiful places to hike and backpack, you are very lucky to be there with alll that awesome biodiversity.

We were avid hikers (day hikers, I could never convince my wife to backpack…she wants a shower and a real meal after the day is done:).

That trolley is a great idea, we did that here when we got married, much more fun and photogenic than a limo (though it was a limo that took us down to Boston for the night before flying out on our honeymoon, courtesy of my parents).

On a different note, on Jan. 22, 2021, you posted ‘Lost and Found’ that showcased your daughter doing a diy project with discarded bottles. Did she ever choose to continue to perfect her craft and begin selling candles and/or glasses? If so, may I see a link so I can view the finished products, or if you posted it, guide me to it?
I thought that was such an excellent idea and post.

Thank you again for all you do and for your wonderful work.

Yes, northern New England.

Though there are plenty of places to go backpacking, it isn’t like out west. Here you are close enough not to miss much, but out there, in the Sierra Nevadas and other places with vast remote wilderness, you can’t get a true sense of them unless you are a couple days in. We began watching backpacking videos a few years ago, and the scenery out in the western mountains is unreal. Most of the best vids are of out there. Still have yet to see a compelling one from Kansas though:)

I have an older brother who has lived in CA since the eighties, Hermosa Beach since the late eighties/early nineties. Whenever he came home for a visit, he would remark on the changing seasons and weather patterns of New England. He said the weather in HB was almost boring in its sunny perfection.

My wife and I spent 10 days in San Diego in late May of ’06. I said to him “What gives? 10 days and we only saw small patches of blue, and an occasional peek at the sun.” “Oh,” he unabashedly replied, “you came during May Gray and June Gloom.” All I got was a nod when I asked if this were an annual event, and a shrug of the shoulders when I further inquired why he didn’t’ let us know that when we said we were planning a trip. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

As to your daughter’s project, thank you for letting me know. I started to go forward from that post to try and find a link you may have provided if she had started selling them, but it would have taken my forever. I meant to just scan each post for the link, but I couldn’t get past your writing. I laughed and reread ‘chasing coyotes’ at least 3 times. I knew then that I was in trouble with Father Time, so I broke down and asked; I am very glad I did.
