Unique Times

Where I share my jewels of wisdom of life

Photo by Aditya Saxena on Unsplash

In Keeping with our theme of Wounds I Healed: The Poetry of Strong Woman, for which I’m proud to be a contributing author, this is a tribute to a dear friend/client that recently went through the big D ivorce and if that wasn’t enough, got cancer not long after. WTF right?!

It was aggressive and had spread to other organs. In some of our sessions when she was dealing with something tough, she would say, “At least it isn’t cancer”. Her mother died from cancer at a very young age. Her words “I’m not afraid to die, but I don’t want to leave my kids,” are truly reminiscent of my feelings and tug at my heart.

She recently moved and I called to check in and she was ecstatic and said her markers went from 500 to 45 and feels great and was taking her 3 girls to Paris to visit the Eiffel Tower. This has had me sailing through my week with joy. I immediately popped this poem out and sent it to her and she was soooooo happy and said “OMG ❤️💕💕 My own poem… how damn special is that!!!! Thank you Cindy, grateful!”😘

People ask, “how and why did you start writing poetry” and I never have an answer except ” I don’t know, it just started popping out of me and I trust it”. But now I know this is the reason… if I could bring cheer in one small corner of someone’s world, then I have accomplished my life mission of sharing my heart of what matters most….. LOVE!

(This poem is NOT in the book)

Life tests,
You choose
how you show up
to the fateful news.

Cave in or lean in,
you have a say
in making the most
of everyday.

You may feel the swarm
of infestation crawling
under your skin
and voices so loud
that barrel you down,

landing you in a heap
of sorrow and pain
but don’t let it own you.

YOU are bigger
than anything that
tries to define you so

climb the
Eiffel tower
and sing your name
while you stand tall in the light,
brighter than The Sirius Star
because honey 🍯

You are a rock star!

I love this so much Cindy. What inspiring poetry. When it comes down to it, isn’t (or shouldn’t that be) everyones mission? To share love? Thank you Cindy – wishing you well 🙏🙂

Oh my sweet Cindy
How I love you so ❤️
You always brighten my day
Whenever I’m feeling low

Songs should be written
About radiant, rosy you
Since you brighten the world
With such a colorful hue

Your heart shines so brightly
In the dim of the day ☀️
And your smile is infectious
Bringing happiness my way

I look fondly forward
To all the love that you share
You make hope come alive
Even in the midst of despair

My wish is for you to know
How truly wonderful you are
Many blessings this day 🌷
Love,
your friend from afar

❤️xoxo

Wonderful post, Cindy. Congrats on being in the book also. I think this anthology will bring a lot of connection, empathy, wisdom, and encouragement to women across the globe. Moderating oneself between the “thinks” and the “feels” is always a challenge. Helping to find the least harmful path between them through dark times is helpful. I’m sure everyone who reads it will find something that resonates for them in it. Finally, CHEERS! to the lady who made her way through to the light <3

also – how very cool to have a poem for a sweet friend that endured so much – glad her cancer is not getting more aggressive but seems to be going the other way

Oh what a gift poetry is – literally a healing force I believe, and it becomes one when it comes through from a touched soul who feels the grief and joy of others – how beautifully you weaved the glory of life and your friend’s actual travel destination into this beautiful poem to honor her journey of both kinds. You made my day with your post, sharing your heartful joy of bright beautiful energy that has made her feel better and take this trip with her family.

Aww, great to hear that your client is feeling better, Cindy. I seldom read and comment on poems (not really my wheelhouse), but this one stuck out to me:

you have a say
in making the most
of everyday.

What a beautiful part that reminds me of facing down whatever’s in the way, because I always have a choice. Thanks for this!
