Good Morning or Evening My Fri-Yayyy Friends!

I can still remember knocking on my sweet client/friend’s door and saying
“Good Morning, Alice”! She would answer most days “What’s so good about it”?

“I’m here” I would say” and she would shake her head and say “Jesus, Joseph and Mary, you are always Miss Happy, smiling. It’s all I can do to get up and answer the door”. With that, we always began our workout with a laugh, ready or not.

Today, I feel a bit like my dear friend, who’s no longer with us. It’s cold, it’s early and it’s Fri-Yay no less, so I should be leaping for joy right? That’s what we say on Friday anyway! Well we do, if you have been following along with me for the past couple years, when I made Fridays all about putting the YAYYYY in the day.

I have to be at the P.T. in 15 min which means even if I left right now, I would be 10 minutes late. They expect me late now. I’ve trained them, for better or worse. I’m sure when they see me they say, “let’s give her 20 extra lunges with 25 pound weights and whip her into shape. You would think I would have learned by now but I guess I’m a glutton for punishment.

It’s just not fun knowing I’ll have to do 3 sets of squats, lunges, crab walk (which seem so easy) until about the 3rd set when my glutes scream, “kill me now”. It’s all good for me though and I seem to be getting results. It beats the prospect of hip surgery which they seem to think is inevitable but I continue to hope I can avoid it. Well, at least until I’m bionic someday, one joint at a time. Hahahaha. 🤣

So here’s the fun part, I finally joined a gym for the first time in over 20 years. I’ve been waiting for the proximity of closeness and as we know with everything it’s “location, location, location” and this is 3 miles from me so it’s perfect. I do train at my gym but it’s truly designed for me to train clients with open chain equipment that allows me to set people up ergonomically correct to accommodate their own body needs. Sure, I can get up and change the settings etc, but who wants to do that. It’s a pain. Wait, isn’t that what working out is, getting up and down? Lol. (remind me someday to tell you more about fixed and free machines if you want to know and I’ll write a post on it).

I hand people weights, get their settings ready and stretch them…kind of like eating in a 5 star restaurant. In P.T. they just point and direct with none of the frills, but rather like eating at a drive though restaurant. On the plus, they watch over me like drill sergeants to assure my movements are correct and I’m not skipping out on a set. Left to my own devices, I generally convince myself I’ve done enough. Besides, they always stretch me at the end and leave me with heat and electrical stim, where I can’t sit and tap away like I’m doing now.

For the record, the outside gym is my favorite workout so walking there is my intention. However, those little exercises that work on mobility and strength that none of us want to do, are vital for rehab and the gym is awesome for that. I was shocked to find one of my clients is still doing her rehab exercises daily after coming out of 4 cortisone shots for arthritis and stenosis. It’s been 3 months and she’s still at it, so for now she’s my inspiration. Kudos Jan!!

Ok, onward to seeing the gym……

Canada College Athletic and Wellness Facility

Here’s the best part, I was signing up for the senior discount but couldn’t. Yes, I was carded! Hahhaha. Not quite… my birthday alerted the system that I wasn’t old enough (being a leap year baby) so they changed the date of my Feb 29th to the 28th to assure I could get the discount which is major. I do love these perks but I’m 16 forever and I’m sticking to it. hee hee,

It has brand new, state of the art equipment and the bonus is, I’ll be working out with Athletes, young and old alike and I get to be a student for a change, not a teacher.

Let me tell you, it’s hard though, going through a gym and watching incorrect form and not stopping to correct people, when I see them doing something wrong. I will have to wear sun glasses and blinders to avoid noticing. They have an array of classes available as well, which I’m excited about too. Now, if I can just take my training cap off and not critique them every-time I’m in class, I’ll do fine. But that’s a tall order…… Once a teacher, always a teacher.

A note to my kids coming home for the holidays:

You too can work out at the brand new gym as my guest but the caveat is, you have to come with me. Not my rules but I’m not complaining. Ok, stay home then and while you’re working out, feed the dogs, answer the door, listen to the banging, put out fires and field emergencies etc.

As for me, It’s Fun Fri-Yay and I’m done with P.T. and late for a contracting meeting and am going hit the gym after I visit all of you and write.

Have a wonderful weekend and get off that couch and out in the world to stretch and move your body as you flex your power from the inside out and build strength.

💗

Cindy

P.S. You may notice my content shifting a bit due to time constraints and my commitment to writing my book coming in March. Mondays will either be on moving or poetry, Wednesdays a quick inspirational quote and Friday isn’t Friday without Fri-Yay Funday.

I remember being watched, or, “checked on” in PT once they sent me off on my own. Lucky for them, they never made me do crab walks. Squats was bad enough. Whatever it takes, though, to feel better. Go you! Your gym looks fantastic. Happy Friday.

That’s a gym? That look like a mall! Wow, I am impressed. That gym looks lively and fun, with tons of activity. I would love to join something like that. Although I am an ambivert, I can see people here just stick to their business, they are enjoying what they are doing.
I got nervous when I first saw the tags and the cover pic, I was like wow Cindy has started writing health blogs, that’s a huge competition, haha
I love it, happy to hear about your experience and very satisfied to hear your voice. Your voice has depth, it’s fun and very satisfying. Your gym experience was definitely Unique times.

Happy Friday Fun Yay, Cindy. Feels good to be able to type on a keyboard again rather than on my tiny phone. I can make typos so much quicker now. Congratulations on joining a gym. I don’t know what I am going to do once I settle into my new place, but something is definitely called for. The fat tire around my middle is increasing by the day and I’m getting one around my bad knee, too, so time to get moving. As soon as I get done writing, I’m going to get off this couch and go to bed. 🙂

Wow, that’s cool of Jan to keep training. But I also feel that staying moving is much better than complete rest, because for some reason, if I rest an overworked muscle, it takes longer to heal. But if I do active recovery like walks or swims, they feel better much quicker. Of course, this could be a different case with arthritis, but staying moving is always a great option.

And I didn’t know you were a leap year baby! Well now I do 😀
