Unique Times

Where I share my jewels of wisdom of life

Whew,

I submitted and made the cutoff date and now, I wait to hear if my poems have been accepted.

I had about 20 starts of poems for Gabriela Maria Milton’s Hidden In Childhood Anthology that I scribbled on paper, typed in my notes, dreamt about and only one that made the grade. Finally, during the holidays where memories come alive and are front and center, I ended up with more than I could submit so I thought I would share one of my extras here.

There’s still time so if you are stumbling over words like I was, but don’t wait too long or you’ll miss the opportunity.

Here’s the link to her submissions page. Make sure you follow the guidelines or your poem will not be eligible for publication.

Here’s your quick cheat sheet:

Title your submission Literary Revelations Anthology Submissions. Please note that any other title will land your submission in the wrong email folder, and your submission will not be read.

Email your submission at literaryrevelations@pm.me

Do not submit more than 3 poems.

Submit your poems in a Word Document, together with a short bio written in the third person. Each poem should not exceed 150 words. We reserve the right to shorten your bio if it exceeds 40 words. For your submission you should use Times New Roman 12, double space.

You attest that you are 18 years or older.

Dear Editor,
Name: (please use the exact name you want to appear in the anthology)
Bio: no more than 40 words.
Attached please find my submission.
Best

Submissions will close on January 3, 2023 so HURRY, you still have time!

Cinderella: (actually a few of my friends call me Cinderella)

Fragments of my childhood fade in and out,

penciled on paper too faint to see.

The fog rolled in hiding my innocence,

an enigma of myself, I barely remember.

Foggy days blanketed me,

a penny in my pocket for good luck,

a mustard seed and a prayer,

I ate cookies and drank hot cinnamon tea.

We played kick the can and kiss, don’t tell.

Boundaries blurred,

I scribbled secrets of fairy tale wishes in my diary,

where I was Cinderella and wishes come true.

I locked it and threw away the key.

Lavish parties, packages brightly colored:

A masquerade with empty boxes,

where feelings were hidden from memory.

I held on to my lamb and hid under the covers,

praying I’d recover.

I’ve torn out pages, erupted volcanic ash,

swam the 7 seas, climbed The Himalayas,

sat with the great sages,

and finally found my other glass slipper.

Oh What Fun it Was!

Have a great finish to the year and New Year!

I’ll be checking in but mostly not posting unless there is a burning share that can’t wait. I’ll be hanging with the kids and mess of the clean up and yeah, finishing what didn’t get done in phase 2 with phase 3 coming soon.

Talk about memories…. here are a few and the mess was more than worth the joy of the moment. We were all together in good spirits, except my FIL who fell again and is back in the hospital sadly. Damn, he was just back up and walking. Aging is not for sissies. We will be visiting him today.

💗

Enjoyed the poem, especially the little details, “a penny in my pocket for good luck, a mustard seed and a prayer” 💓 and what a beautiful family! I know what you mean about trying to pick the perfect poem to submit, I had a hard time, too! Something about submissions brings out my OCD and I get too critical! 😆 Enjoy your time with family!!

Hi Cindy, a beautiful poem about childhood and the joys and perils of growing up. So sorry about your FILs fall. My mom gardened while I was away (and not here to stop her) and she has injured her bad hip. I hope is recovery goes well 🤗💞

Well, well, well Cinderella! Looks like you clicked your heels three times and poof, your crystal carriage arrived with your family. Loved your poem dear, but of course, I wonder how you managed to find the time to swim the 7 seas, climb The Himalayas, and sit with the great sages. Energizer Bunny seems so inadequate to call you that now! LOL 🤣😝😂

So sorry to hear about your Father-in-law. Keeping him in our prayers. Stay well my dear friend. Sending you much love, hugs, a “slow-motion” joy stick, and plenty of smooches dawwwwwlinkkkkk!!! 🤗💖😘

Cindy girlfriend, you always make me LMAO!!! 😂😝🤣 Yes ladybug, you are my Dora the Explorer! On you next poem you’ll probably include climbing the pyramids in Egypt or climbing Mt. Everest! 🧗🏼‍♀️🏔🏂🏼

Sooooo, you FINALLY broke in your tub eh? Good for you. But only 10 minutes? Wassup with that? Now honey, that is unacceptable. 5 or 10 minutes is shower action. 🚿 You must allow for longer periods of soaking and basking in tranquility for at least for 35-45 minutes. I am a 45 minutes to 1-hour kind of girl. 🛁 LOL 😜

Girlfriend, go get your Cindalicious Cinderella self on your way. Your adventures simply amaze me. Sending you a truckload of hugs, smooches and love!!! 😘💖🤗🦋🥰
