A special shout out and thanks to John Castellena for his continuous support in re-blogging our work. Yesterday he sent the famous speech by Martin Luther King and the song “We Shall Overcome”. Thanks for inspiring this post Johnnie.
In tribute to an incredible man whom we are all forever indebted to!
I dream in color of a better tomorrow.
Fighting for the dream you shared,
envisioning us all melding together,
In panoramic color.
IT’S A NEW DAY, A NEW DAWN!
Yesterdays scars haunt,
Yet we continue the chant.
Colors have blurred for some,
but not for all.
IT’S A NEW DAY, A NEW DAWN!
Yet we feel so small.
Still, we stand on the crest,
echoing your words,
We won’t be bullied, this is just a test.
IT’S A NEW DAY, A NEW DAWN!
Surrender to the night sky,
The shinning light,
Stand tall, holding hands.
We sing your word, as we take a stand.
IT’S A NEW DAY, A NEW DAWN!
We shall live in peace someday,
Hearts that believe, heal.
Love is always present,
The memories live on in our hearts.
IT’S A NEW DAY, A NEW DAWN!
Get out of our way
We have nothing to loose,
You’ve taken it all, but we still chant,
We shall over come.
IT’S A NEW DAY, A NEW DAWN!
Yes, we shall live in peace someday,
And bow our heads and pray.
Love is always present,
The memories live on in our hearts.
IT’S A NEW DAY, A NEW DAWN!

Beautiful, Cindy. Hopeful. I remember sitting on the floor in Sproul Hall at Berkeley in 1965 when we had our massive sit-in protesting the efforts of Berkeley administration to shut down student efforts in the Bay Area to fight for civil rights. I sat in a small circle of 8 people with Joan Baez and sang “We shall Overcome.”. Later, I stood on the Dean’s desk and talked about fight ahead. We were hopeful. Good things have happened since then, but so much more has to be done. –Curt
Hey Curt! Thanks my friend. Good to see you! I trust all is well and hopeful you have a post to show for it.. lol. I’ll check.
You were one of the good ones and we all thank you for that. I remember you talking about singing with Joan Baez. Yes, strides and move to come. Hugs and love my friend! 💗

Amazing Cindy 💗, this poem paints a powerful picture of resilience and hope for a better future and also highlights the importance of unity and community in the pursuit of peace and love. Love this phrase “It’s a new day, a new dawn”. I remember we used to sing “We Shall Overcome” during our school days 💗
Thank you so much Ritish! 💞 I’m glad you like my poem. We so do need more of this for sure! Oh that’s so cool you sang the song. I love that. 💞💞
Perseverance in the face of adversity, and the idea that love and hope will always be present, even in difficult times.
The repetition throughout the poem works well this theme of moving forward and starting anew.
Nicely done, my friend💖
Well said Jay! Yes, even on the darkest of days, like the sun love is there, behind the cloud. Thank you so much for resonating with me and sharing your thoughts.
Glad you enjoyed the repetition as well.
I’m most appreciative! ❣️
Lovely! I remember We shall overcome. We use to sing it all the time under Apartheid in South Africa. Plse check out my poem Memories of War on my site ghairodanielspresence & share. Love & blessings across the ocean. Xxx
Oh thank you so much. It was a great one for sure and Love that you sand it In South Africa. I sure will … I’m way behind but I think you just followed me and I followed back? Love and blessings back and thanks for yours! ❣️
Thank you for this inspiring and uplifting post, Cindy. Wishing you a wonderful week! 💗💗
You’re welcome and thank you so much for your wonderful words Lauren. I wish you a wonderful week as well!
💗💞
I think you hit on the key to all of this. “We shall live in peace.” That is or should be the goal. What gives mankind peace?
I listened to all the speaches on reparations last night. Opinions were as varied as the stars in the sky. Many of the speakers said that reparations would give the black people dignity. Others said they already had it and had worked hard for it.
It’s a puzzle how to ammend for a wrong this egredious and this enduring.
What will the next generation of black people say? Will they feel empowered or entitled. Would reparations continue to all generations much as the privileges of race have been passed down to the whites, or at least some of them?
Does peace follow money? Ask the wealthy and many will tell you it does not. Ask Kirstin Alley, or Bob Saget, if you could. Yet is is nice to have if it doesn’t add more worry to your life.
Sadje wrote in her poem, Faith gives peace. Where is faith in all of this? On both sides of the reparations battle from both races faith is never mentioned, nor is peace, or gratitude for what we have.
It’s a puzzle that seems to have no answer.
If we could go back and undo the past, we probably would have a much poorer or less developed country empty, possibly nearly empty of black people, void of jazz, Harlam Globe Trotters, and the beauty of the contributions of the many black people who have live and died here.
I don’t wish a past life of slavery on anyone. but I know many black people who have done much more with their lives than I because they were black. They had a stronger passion to succeed and probably more talent than I or my ancestors did. What about Kathryn from Hidden Figures? Brilliant!
What about my friend Mrs. Royal, who was the first black school nursing administrator in Oakland? From mom’s generation, she was much more successful brilliant than my mother who was very bright.
I wish our country could think of an answer that would bring peace and harmony rather than continue to fuel the racial divide.
Wow Marcia,
I love all of the time you spent writing about this and sharing your well thought out and wonderful views.
This is multilayered and faceted and would do well as a topic of conversation in a group setting. Your points are well taken.
I think this would be an awesome blog post if you would want to share it and help shed more light as we certainly need more peace and harmony and less racial divide for sure!!!
Thank you so much for being here and your rich comments!
💗
I seldom get into political discussions on my blog. Your poem started me thinking about last night, and one thing led to another. It is a deep discussion that needs to happen at many levels far beyond me.
A wonderful man who took society forward.
I worry things might be going backwards.
A great video, thank you!!!!
Indeed he was Resa! It is a scary thought to think I agree! I’m delighted you enjoyed it, thank you Resa! ❣️
