Monday I called our stone supplier, who we purchased most of our stone from for our remodel, to find out what I should clean my stone with to preserve it. She was very gracious as always, but I could sense something wasn’t right, so I asked her if she was ok.
She told me about the earthquake in Turkey and Syria and was quite distraught for her country. Most of her family members and friends were ok, but they were still trying to locate a few and she was devastated by the destruction. I had no idea about it until that moment when she shared it with me.
I was shocked how she could maintain such composure and talk to me about such a trivial matter after hearing this sad news. It certainly puts things in perspective when you hear of such tragedy.
She and her co-worker, were truly the back bone of our project when things were going awry and we could always count on them to see us through and we were so grateful. I look at the gorgeous stone in my bathroom we purchased from them, and can’t help but think of the rubble of destruction.
I wrote this poem and sent it to Buse, after our conversation and she was so grateful and asked if I would spread the word and send links if anyone wanted to donate to the cause. I don’t know about you, but I like to help when I can, but only when the links are secure. I will list them at the end if you are inclined to donate.
Nature giveth and taketh away.
The earth shakes and rumbles destroying
with no discrepancy.
Crying,
screaming,
displaced,
trapped,
waiting…
hungry mouths
to be fed
and clothed.
Other countries come to aide,
Turkish citizens do whatever they can,
Where is this dictator silenced by our dismay?
Searching in rubble,
cell phones, severed,
hospitals filled up.
In Turkey, 5,894 people are confirmed to have been killed,
1,932 people have died in Syria,
for a combined total of 7,826 fatalities,
to be buried and counting.
Send mercy,
meditation prayers,
love, and light
and yes, money please.
Whatever is in your heart,
is so much appreciated.
We stand united in shock,
but speak for those who can’t,
as love and support prevail.
