Unique Times

Where I share my jewels of wisdom of life

It is with a heavy and grateful heart that I share my poem with you today, “Lest I Say More”, published on MasticadoresUsa, thanks to Barbara Leonhard, Editor and the entire MUSA team. Sometimes we write what we don’t want to write to free up space in our souls to let the darkness go so we can continue to be the light from which we came. This is what that piece is for me.

Thank you for being here on good days and bad when I struggle to find words. I’ve been grappling with a poem to write ever since we had another war break out and much to my chagrin, I already had a piece accepted for publication and in the pipeline. There are no words for the brutality of these attacks that are devastating, revolting and primitive beyond belief as my friend Cheryl, from Gulf Coast Poetry said in her very well done poem, We Long For Peace“! Please check it out Cheryl’s incredible poem with wonderful insight.

Words pale trying to even the score.
Lest I say more?

Toddlers throw rocks and pick up sticks,
a friendly game of tug o war.
Lest I say more?

Missiles overhead,
lighting the night sky,
shattering yesterday’s dreams.
Lest I say more?

Hearts bleed, children scream.
Power and greed leave us forlorn.
Lest I say more?

Life’s frailties pull at our heart strings.
Mothers longing hide
through tears streaming.
Lest I say more?

I would be honored if you would go to MasticadoresUsa here to read the rest of my poem.

I reached out to Joan Baez again after the last time I connected with her about my poem about the war in Ukraine and didn’t hear back. It was a long shot I know, but it was worth a try. I was hopeful I might perhaps be able to interview her or perhaps have here sing a song since she is an activist for peace. She lives in our community and is neighbors with my friend and has these two paintings currently sitting outside her home.

Thank you so much for being here and to you Barbara and team for publishing this piece. I’m most grateful as we hold hands through the ethers and continue to blast love and light to end these war crimes.

Remember it’s not whether we are successful or not when we reach out to someone and follow our hunches. We never know what each intuitive feeling might lead us too when we act on them. We continue trusting our intuition because we never know where things will land and how they might ricochet light in some way. Trust yours and act on them.

Blessings of Love,

💗

Cindy

The world feels your pain. I wonder if there has been any time when war hasn’t raged somewhere. That doesn’t say much for an aspect of our species – the one who seeks through power and greed. Thanks for leading me to Cheryl’s wonderful poem.

You’ve said what millions of people are thinking, Cindy. I fear for us as a species. Words have power, and I hope your words–and those of all good, like-minded people–can somehow reverse the tide and break the chains of this current darkness.

Oh my dear Cindy, I believe most of us share in your heartfelt reflection. It’s so difficult to watch the updates of the cruelty people impose on others, not considering the innocent lives they are destroying. Thank you for sharing your poem that tugs at our heartstrings my friend! Peace and Blessings! 🤗💖🥰

I once sang “We shall overcome” with Joan. It was 1964 and she had joined us in a Sproul Hall sit-in at Berkley related to the Free Speech Movement. About 8 of us sat around in a circle and sang together. It was quite moving…

What a poignant poem, Cindy. During times like these I am often reminded of a quote by Meryl Streep, “take your pain and make it art.”

We never seem to let go of the ego, a perpetuation of our own doom through (in reality) pettiness with deadliness.

I wish we lived in a world without war. Also, I worry the fighting will get worse around the world as humans continue to lose empathy.

As a wordsmith
you’ve done all that you must
with words
driven through the dust
past the the gates of remorse
delivered upon the back
of a pale horse
by death itself
words that need to be heard
by a world that steadfastly
refuses of change course

Your poem represents the view of the majority of sane people. This war erupted suddenly and we don’t know what will be the outcome. The geo-political scenario seems grim. Thank you, Cindy for writing this timely, heartfelt piece! Congratulations too on the publication 🎉👏

It’s difficult to see what’s happening around the world. Not sure which side is right or wrong but the sufferings will create more revengeful people. I sometimes wish we were better off during the Covid pandemic lockdown then what’s happening right now.

Wonderful poem, unfortunately the world is such a dark place in so many ways. We need peace more than ever and we need to learn that by now there are better ways to solve conflict than war and violence.

Heartbreaking. It’s impossible to comprehend from afar the intensity of pain and despair people living in war torn zones are living with. One day life is relatively secure … and then everything changes.
